The Nomad Gallery in Islamabad is currently hosting a photographic exhibition by the multitalented artist, Abbrar Cheema. Although he began his career as a painter and sculptor, he has mastered a variety of skills over the years and is now a professional photographer, designer, cinematographer and animator who also runs a multimedia production company.

His latest offering, entitled “The Souls of the Walled City”, shows his enthrallment with the beauty, versatility and grandeur of the city of Lahore. Boasting over 25 photographs, it tries to capture a glimpse of life in the land of rich culture and history that is Lahore.

The collection displays the historically significant monuments of the city including Dehli Gate, Badshahi Mosque, the painted wall of Lahore Fort, and the enrapturing Nau Nihal Singh’s Haveli. It also represents the lives of the city’s common folk as they go about their everyday activities. Men busy at the workplace, a musician playing his tabla, and a forlorn child wandering the streets, are some of the moments skillfully captured and naturalistically portrayed in Cheema’s photographs, which leave the viewer with a wave of nostalgia and a longing to return to the city’s glorious past.
The exhibition runs till 27th October.
