Mix Fruit Tart by Auntie Munaver’s Desserts & Savoury

Nestled in the heart of the city, Auntie Munaver’s Desserts & Savory is a true gem that will satisfy even the most discerning taste buds. As soon as you step inside their newest outlet at Shaheed-i-Millat Road, Karachi, you're greeted by the aroma of freshly baked goods that permeates the air, making your mouth water and your stomach growl.

The pastry case is a sight for sore eyes, with a dizzying array of delectable treats on display. From the infamous Chocolate Tres-Leches Cake to the Mini Pavlovas, each item looks almost too beautiful to eat. But don't let their stunning appearance fool you, these goodies are packed with flavor and will leave you wanting more.

    The setting

But it's not just the pastries that make the bakery stand out. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to answer questions and make recommendations, while the ambiance is cozy and inviting. The best thing is that this outlet has a small seating space, making it the perfect spot to relax with a cup of coffee and a sweet treat or a savory one.

The bakery's rendition of the classic Latin American Tres Leches Cake was what put it on the map back in 2016. The dessert is still nothing short of extraordinary. Picture a moist, sponge cake soaked in a trio of luscious milk: sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and rich heavy cream.

Each bite takes you one step closer to feeling completely blissful. The cake effortlessly absorbs the decadent milky mixture, resulting in a melt-in-your-mouth texture that is simply divine. The delicate balance of sweetness and creaminess is perfected, leaving a subtle hint of vanilla that dances on your palate. Topped with a velvety layer of chocolate sauce this Tres Leches Cake is a true masterpiece. It’s so good that in spite of a really high price tag attached to it, one cannot help but go back to buy more.

The bakery’s Chicken Pot Pie is one of the best I’ve had in my life. They have truly mastered the art of this classic dish, delivering a soul-warming experience that will make your taste buds sing with joy. As we took the first bite, the golden flaky crust crumbles delicately, revealing a piping-hot filling that is a symphony of flavors.

    Chicken Pot Pie

Tender minced chicken is nestled amidst a medley of vibrant vegetables, all enveloped in a rich mix of spices that is both creamy and savory. Each bite is a harmonious blend of textures, with the buttery crust adding a delightful crunch to the velvety filling. The homemade feel of this Chicken Pot Pie is undeniable, with every ingredient carefully selected and expertly prepared. The portion size is generous and worth the price, ensuring that every bite leaves you feeling satisfied and contented. If you're craving a comforting and satisfying meal that tastes like a warm hug, their Chicken Pot Pie is an absolute must-try. It's a testament to the bakery's dedication to crafting food that not only tastes incredible, but also nourishes the soul.

Their Strawberry Shortbread offers a delightful experience that showcases the bakery's creativity and dedication. The combination of buttery, crumbly shortbread and luscious strawberries, creates a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. The shortbread base provides a satisfying crunch, while the generous layer of sweet strawberry filling adds a burst of fruity freshness.

    Strawberry Shortbread

The bakery's attention to detail is evident in the quality of the ingredients used, with ripe and juicy strawberries that enhance the overall taste. The natural sweetness of the strawberries complements the buttery richness of the shortbread, creating a balanced and enjoyable treat.

However, there are a few areas that could be further refined. We can ascertain that the shortbread is not always the same, because we have had it multiple times. While the shortbread has a delightful texture, there have been instances where it could benefit from a touch more moisture or a hint of additional flavor. This would elevate the overall experience and make each bite even more memorable. Additionally, while the strawberry filling is generally delicious, there have been occasions where it lacks a bit of intensity in flavor. A more pronounced strawberry taste would further enhance the overall enjoyment of the shortbread.

Sugar Free Chocolate Tart with Strawberries

Despite these minor points for improvement, it is important to emphasize that the bakery's Strawberry Shortbread is still a delightful treat that showcases their skill and commitment to creating tasty and visually appealing desserts.

While their Mini Pavlovas topped with a medley of mixed fruits offer a burst of vibrant flavors and delightful textures, there are some aspects that could be improved. The Petite Meringue Nests demonstrate the bakery's dedication to creating exquisite desserts, with a delicate crisp shell that leads to a pillowy and marshmallow-like interior. However, the overall experience falls short of being truly exceptional.

    Mix Fruit Pavlova

The artful arrangement of fresh and juicy mixed fruits, including succulent berries, tangy citrus segments, and tropical delights, attempts to create a harmonious symphony of sweetness and tartness. Unfortunately, the balance doesn't always hit the mark, with some bites being overly sweet, or lacking the desired tanginess. While visually appealing, the light and airy meringue often fails to fully complement the fruit, resulting in a less satisfying combination.

Overall, Auntie Munavar’s Desserts & Savory is a must-visit for anyone who loves good food and a great atmosphere. But beware, you could be blowing all of your take-home pay at the bakery in one go!

As the new year begins, let us also start anew. I’m delighted to extend, on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and in my own name, new year’s greeting and sincere wishes to YOULIN magazine’s staff and readers.

The year 2021 is the 100th birthday of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. The 100-year journey of CPC surges forward with great momentum and China-Pakistan relationship has flourished in the past 70 years.
