The ancient Silk Road connected "Colorful Great Central China", and Central China’s rich cultural heritage, and it has now entered the extended Belt and Road.
At Zhengzhou Railway Container Center Station in Henan Province, China, there are many self-made refrigerated containers, and common containers are arranged in orderly lines, waiting for loading of goods, which will be transported to Hamburg, Munich and other places in Germany.
In recent years, Henan province has vastly contributed in the Belt and Road construction, Sino-Europe Cargo Trains (Zhengzhou), Luxemburg Cargo Airlines, and high-speed rail network, all of which act like colorful ribbons, linking Henan and the foreign countries along the Belt and Road.
Link between the East and the West, connecting land and sea
Henan is located in the central area of China, and acts like an intersection of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.
At Hamburg Railway Port in Germany, every day there are nearly 100 freight cars from Zhengzhou, China. Carle Hans Amberg, Chairman of North China and Central China Zone of German Schenkerof Deutsche Bahn AG, said, "All the industrial yarn, clothing, shoes and abrasives from China and wine, mother and baby products, and motors from Europe are collected and distributed here, making Henan a trade juncture between China and Europe."
Based on the operation of Sino-Europe cargo trains (Zhengzhou), Henan Province, Zhengzhou has extended the international train-ocean freight lines, from Zhengzhou to Qingdao and Lianyungang, providing convenient and efficient port-to-door services for Henan enterprises.
Henan responds positively to and participates in the Belt and Road construction, such as the construction of dry port and train and shipping transport, promoting the multi-modal transportation link between sea and land and eastward to the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. This makes the economic integration with the Silk Road westward come true through the promotion of operation level of Sino-Europe cargo trains (Zhengzhou) and opening the line from Zhengzhou to Hamburg and Munich.
Multimodal transport linking global development
Zhengzhou and Luxemburg have a great advantage in geographical location and great potential for cooperation, since one is active in the East Asian economic circle, and the other in a developed European economic circle.
On June 14th, 2017, President Xi Jinping met with Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, and stressed that China supports the construction of Zhengzhou - Luxemburg air Silk Road. This was quite meaningful for Henan’s deep participation in the Belt and Road.
On the tarmac of Zhengzhou Airport, a Boeing 747-8F cargo aircraft named "Zhengzhou" of Luxemburg International Cargo Airlines from Europe landed, full of European goods. 3 hours later, the "Zhengzhou" was full of Chinese cargo, and took off for Europe. “After a single booking on line, in 72 hours the delivery can be available; this is how multimodal transport translates into a very convenient process," said Xu Lu, the sales manager of Zhengzhou Chuang Yida Lighting Co. Ltd.
Li Weidong, general manager of Henan Airport Group, said that the types of import and export goods at Zhengzhou Airport have developed from common goods to more than 20 categories, such as frozen cargo chain, express mail and e-business supplier. Air freight, named, “Zhengzhou price,” has become an important, “wind vane” that affects China's air cargo market.
Henan, based on Airlines “double hub,” has constructed its multimodal transport system, and with an integration of tangible transport hub and invisible big data Internet main hub, it offers efficient and convenient international logistics transportation service. This involves a "single declaration" for for the whole journey, solving the coherence problems of international transportation, and offers the "Henan Plan" which will be a reference for the whole country, as it will genuinely make "single form for global logistics" come true.
Building the hub to create a central pivot
The irreplaceable regional advantages and powerful transportation infrastructure of Henan connect it with the economic circle. Now, a logistic system with the "three nets fusion" of civil aviation, highway and railway and the "four port linkage" of the airport, the rail port, the highway port and the dry port have been formed.
Henan, focusing on building its “hub,” is speeding up the construction of modern three-dimensional traffic system and logistics system, and is forging the connectivity between the north and south of China, between the East and the West of the world and building a modern integrated transport hub, to serve “the Belt and Road” construction.
