A sophisticated ambiance where contemporary elegance meets a warm and inviting dining atmosphere

In Islamabad’s rapidly evolving dining scene, Umami - The Fifth Flavour has established itself as a destination that seeks to offer more than just a meal. Located on the 4th Floor of Pakland Tower 3 in New Blue Area, the restaurant combines an elegant setting, a diverse international menu, and a contemporary approach to dining. Its central location in one of Islamabad’s emerging commercial and lifestyle hubs also makes it a convenient choice for family dinners, business meetings, celebrations and relaxed evenings with friends.

A delightful balance of fresh ingredients, rich flavours and refined culinary techniques, creating a satisfying taste in every bite

New Blue Area has quickly developed into one of Islamabad’s prominent commercial and dining destinations, with restaurants, cafés and lifestyle businesses occupying its modern towers. Umami’s location inside Pakland Tower 3 places it within this contemporary environment, while its upper-floor setting gives the restaurant a distinctive character.

For visitors coming from Islamabad’s business and residential districts, New Blue Area is relatively accessible and offers the advantage of combining dining with shopping, business meetings, and other activities. Umami’s position on the fourth floor also separates it from the busy street environment, creating a more relaxed transition from the commercial surroundings into the restaurant.

One of Umami’s strongest features is its ambiance. The restaurant presents itself as a fine dining establishment with elegant surroundings, designed to make the setting an important part of the overall experience. Rather than focusing exclusively on food, Umami brings together interiors, presentation, hospitality, and atmosphere to create a complete dining environment.

Fresh, colourful and carefully prepared - Umami’s sushi selections bring distinctive Japanese flavours to the table

The restaurant describes its dining space as refined and suitable for different occasions, from family dinners and business meals to birthdays and special celebrations. This versatility is one of its appealing characteristics. The atmosphere can work for someone looking for a quiet meal as well as for guests who want to enjoy a more sophisticated evening.

The visual character of the restaurant is particularly suited to Islamabad’s growing preference for stylish dining spaces. Its modern interior, carefully arranged seating, and attention to presentation give it a polished feel without making the experience excessively formal. The ambiance is also complemented by the restaurant’s emphasis on hospitality. Umami describes refined hospitality and attentive service as key elements of its concept, suggesting that the dining experience is intended to extend beyond the plate.

The word umami refers to one of the five basic tastes, generally associated with a rich and savory flavour. The restaurant uses this concept as part of its identity, and its menu reflects a broad interpretation of international cuisine. According to its official website, Umami offers Japanese and sushi selections alongside Italian and continental dishes, as well as gourmet fast food, desserts, specialty coffee and signature non-alcoholic beverages.

This variety is particularly useful when dining with a group whose preferences differ. One guest may prefer sushi or Japanese specialties, while another may want pasta or continental cuisine. Instead of restricting diners to one culinary tradition, Umami attempts to bring several styles together under one roof.

From Japanese-inspired specialties to international favourites, Umami offers a diverse culinary experience for different tastes

The sushi and Japanese section is one of the more distinctive aspects of the menu. The restaurant highlights freshly prepared sushi and Japanese specialties, while items such as California Maki and Overloaded Maki demonstrate the range available in this category. At the same time, the Italian and continental offerings provide familiar choices for diners who may not be particularly interested in Japanese cuisine.

Food quality is ultimately what determines whether an attractive restaurant becomes a memorable dining destination, and Umami places considerable emphasis on preparation, consistency, and presentation. One interesting feature highlighted by the restaurant is its fully electric kitchen, which it describes as a pioneering concept in Pakistan. According to Umami, the kitchen is designed to provide greater precision and consistency during cooking. From a dining perspective, this approach is interesting because consistency is particularly important in a restaurant offering such a broad menu. Maintaining the desired texture, temperature and flavour across Japanese, Italian and continental dishes requires careful kitchen management.

The restaurant also emphasizes the presentation of its dishes, which is an important part of contemporary fine dining. Food is increasingly judged not only by flavour but also by appearance, portion composition and the overall manner in which it is served.

Umami – The Fifth Flavour combines refined ambiance, quality food and distinctive taste to create an inviting destination for food lovers in Islamabad’s New Blue Area

Independent online feedback provides another perspective. A recent Islamabad Reddit discussion about Umami in New Blue Area described the visitor's experience positively, particularly mentioning the service, ambiance, food, and views. However, another participant expressed the view that some of the menu felt similar to offerings found at other restaurants. This suggests that individual impressions of taste and originality can vary, particularly with a broad international menu.

That variation is worth acknowledging because taste is inherently subjective. What makes Umami notable is less the claim that every dish will suit every palate and more the combination of variety, presentation, and a dining environment designed around a premium experience. Another element that distinguishes Umami is the effort to position dining as an overall experience. Its concept brings together food, ambiance, service, technology, and presentation rather than treating cuisine as an isolated component.

The restaurant is open daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, allowing it to serve different dining occasions throughout the day. Its menu also includes breakfast items, desserts, coffee, and beverages, in addition to lunch and dinner options. This makes Umami suitable for more than an evening dinner. It can accommodate a morning or weekend breakfast, a business lunch, an afternoon coffee, or a formal dinner.

Umami brings together stylish surroundings, attentive hospitality and a memorable dining experience in the heart of Islamabad

Umami - The Fifth Flavour represents the changing character of Islamabad’s restaurant culture, particularly in the New Blue Area. Its location in Pakland Tower 3, sophisticated ambiance, international menu, and emphasis on hospitality make it a restaurant designed around a complete dining experience.

Its biggest attraction is arguably the way these elements come together. The elegant surroundings create the right setting, the diverse menu caters to different tastes, and the restaurant’s emphasis on preparation and presentation adds another dimension to the experience. For diners looking for a stylish restaurant in Islamabad where ambiance, international cuisine, and hospitality come together, Umami offers an interesting option. Whether the occasion is a family gathering, business meeting, celebration, or simply an evening out, the restaurant provides an environment where the setting is almost as important as the food itself.

Ultimately, Umami’s appeal lies in its attempt to make dining an experience rather than simply serving a meal, a concept that fits naturally with the evolving food and lifestyle scene of Islamabad’s New Blue Area.
