Karachi is consistently writing its’ own romance with food and while the city has evolved in the past two years of lock down, some of our food habits have changed as well. Due to the pandemic, we have learnt that fine dining has its charms, but something has to be said about the luxury of being able to enjoy great taste within the safety of one’s home or car. Being able to wear comfortable pajamas while doing it is just a bonus.
Gone are the days when we used to make reservations at fancy restaurants in search of tasty food, we are now spoilt for choices even when picking out what to eat at the last moment—often while on our way home. There is a food cart in almost in every area of the city which sells delicious food.
Wok On is certainly the best place to be if one love’s Chinese food. Located at Bahadurabad, this truck serves a variety of wok-based dishes including noodles and fried rice. The best feature of the cart is the balance between desi and authentic Chinese food on the menu. The food is reasonably priced and the serving size is generally quite ample. The variety on the menu is befitting a food cart and owners have stated that they will be interested in introducing seasonal dishes down the line.

Snacc has managed to be one of the city’s best-kept secrets while still being immensely popular with the residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 4. Residents of the area describe it as of the best places to go to if one is looking for unique snack options. The cart serves up Instagram-worthy food, including Korean Fried Chicken Sandwiches, delicious corn dogs and exquisite yet affordable mac and cheese. The serving sizes are quite ample, and the dishes are well priced. Snacc has the added advantage of being open late into the night, so if one is ever passing through Gulshan Block 4 at night, they might want to make a pit-stop there!

With Korean culture, such as music, films and TV shows, slowly creeping up into our everyday lives, it is understandable that one would be interested in trying the food which we see in these films and shows. Well, now we must look no further since Street Dudes is serving up some delicious Korean corn dogs! They are located right outside the main entrance of Dolmen Mall Tariq Road, and have attracted a large crowd, which piles outside their cart and waits to be served delicious treats. The demand has been such that Street Dudes has expanded their menu to pizzas. One should be wary of the wait time when they visit but assured with the knowledge that the food is most certainly worth the trouble.

Even though there is a full review of this establishment, it is worth being mentioned twice! The food truck is located at both Tipu Sultan Chowrangi and at Khayaban-I-Seher in Karachi. Nothing about Bao Bae is boring—from their food to their packaging and marketing. It serves up handcrafted Udon noodles and Bao Buns with a variety of fillings. The food is reasonable priced but it may seem slightly expensive to some customers. Bao Bae is currently one of the most beloved food trucks of the Karachiites.

Street Kitchen was the pioneer of food trucks in Karachi. Their cart moves to different places, including Boat Basina and Sindhi Muslim, and delivers nearly all the dishes served in their restaurant. Not only is everything on their menu such as burgers, pasta and sandwiches a must try, it is also reasonably priced.

This sweet treat cart, which travels around DHA, serves the city's best waffles. It was one of the first such initiatives in Karachi and is a go-to place all authentic waffle lovers! Waffle Witch has recently introduced a line of premium ice cream, which tastes heavenly.

D’oh deserves an honorable mention on this list since it has recently opened a dine-in restaurant after years of serving freshly made churros on a cart outside Forum Mall. It was the first place to introduce churros to Karachi and is still one of the best places to go to if one wants to enjoy scrumptious fried dough!
