Art Wall
Islamabad is a city dominated by cafe culture. Specialty coffees and themed spaces are not exactly news; however, now and then a cafe manages to escape becoming a part of another redundant cafes-you-should-try-in-Islamabad list. Veeru Cafe happens to be one of them.
Located in Najam Market, F-8/4, Veeru Cafe has gained a reputation amongst students, freelancers, and young professionals for being the next “it” hangout place. The cafe has a modern, youthful, and contemporary vibe, which makes it an elegant space to be in, but not an overly formal one. For the interior, the cafe embraces warm lighting, earthy tones, and wooden accents. Large windows allow natural light to brighten the space during the day, while the thoughtfully arranged seating accommodates a variety of visitors. Whether someone wishes to work remotely with a laptop, enjoy an afternoon coffee with friends, or simply unwind with a book, the cafe manages to strike a balance between being lively and peaceful. Art is central to the theme of the cafe. Framed posters line the walls between tables, adding a pop of zeitgeist to the cafe. However, this hardly compares to the great display of frames right next to the dessert display. The entire wall is lined with paintings, mirrors and hanging trinkets, making it a great spot for an Instagram photo.
For my visit, I decided to get a taste of their menu by trying their signature offerings, namely the Club Chicken Sandwich, Hot Latte and Banana Bread.
The food and coffee were served in colorful clay tableware, complementing the cosy aesthetic of the cafe. I decided to start with the club sandwich, which was served with a side of lettuce and radish salad, and waffle fries. At first glance, I was particularly impressed by the serving size. In a city that insists on smaller portions, Veeru Cafe offers a hearty amount, making the meal properly satiating. The sandwich consisted of grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, fried egg, and a creamy sauce. It was a classic take on the club sandwich, and delivered exactly what a classic club should. The bread remained crisp without becoming dry, while the filling struck a satisfying balance between freshness and richness. The crispy waffle fries went nicely with the flavourful sandwich, offering a nice contrast of plain and savoury.
Since Veeru Cafe is popular for their coffee and desserts, I simply had to sample them. I decided to pair the hot latte with a slice of banana bread for a warm ending to my meal. Smooth, creamy, and well-balanced, the latte allowed the rich espresso to shine through without being overpowered by milk. The velvety foam added a pleasant texture, making it a comforting drink that paired effortlessly with the food. The banana bread was freshly baked and deliciously moist. It carried the natural taste of ripe bananas, instead of being overly sugary. The notes of cinnamon gave it a delectable smell and enhanced its comforting flavour. Paired with the classic hot latte, the dessert felt like a warm hug.
The service further enhances the overall dining experience. Staff members are courteous, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, often providing recommendations to first-time visitors. Orders arrive within a reasonable timeframe, and the team maintains a friendly yet professional attitude throughout the visit. The relaxed service style matches the cafe’s atmosphere, allowing customers to enjoy their meal at their own pace without feeling rushed.
Veeru Cafe’s location is also pivotal in its popularity. F-8 Markaz is both a commercial area with many shops and offices and is also close to many academic institutions. This makes the cafe a perfect pit stop for shoppers, professionals, and students alike, further enhancing its popularity.
Ultimately, paired with great ambiance and a central location, Veeru Cafe has proven to be a success in the city’s competitive cafe landscape. Its meals, from the expertly prepared hot latte and satisfying club sandwich to the comforting slice of banana bread, reflect a commitment to quality and simplicity. Combined with inviting interiors and attentive service, the cafe delivers an experience that feels both refined and genuinely welcoming. While Islamabad offers no shortage of cafes, Cafe Veeru distinguishes itself by creating a space where customers return not only for the food and coffee, but also for the sense of comfort that accompanies every visit.
